This itinerary assumes you're based in or near District 1, comfortable walking in heat for short stretches between taxi or ride-hail hops, and want a mix of history, food and city atmosphere rather than a packed checklist. Adjust the pace freely — Saigon rewards slowing down as much as covering ground.
Day 1: District 1 landmarks
Start at the Reunification Palace before the late-morning heat builds, then walk to Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office opposite. Continue to the War Remnants Museum if you have the emotional bandwidth for it the same day (otherwise save it for tomorrow morning). In the afternoon, browse Ben Thanh Market, then head up to a rooftop bar or the Bitexco Skydeck for sunset.
Day 2: Cu Chi Tunnels day trip
A half-day Cu Chi Tunnels tour departs early morning and typically returns by early-to-mid afternoon, leaving time to rest, then explore street food in the evening, either around Ben Thanh's night market stalls or a specific dish you've been wanting to try.
Day 3: Temples, local life and a different neighbourhood
Spend the morning in Cholon, visiting Thien Hau Pagoda and Binh Tay Market, or alternatively the Jade Emperor Pagoda and Turtle Lake if you'd rather stay central. In the afternoon, try a specialty coffee shop in District 3, then finish with dinner and drinks in whichever neighbourhood you haven't explored yet — Binh Thanh's bar scene is a good change of pace for a final night.
A note on pace
This itinerary is deliberately not packed hour-to-hour — Saigon's heat and traffic make over-scheduling counterproductive. Building in downtime, a slow coffee, or simply sitting somewhere and watching the city move is as much a part of visiting well as ticking off sights.
