The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony on January 15, 2026, for Metro Line 2, running from Ben Thanh to Tham Luong. Unlike the largely elevated Line 1, Line 2 is planned mostly underground and will give Ben Thanh its first real interchange station once complete, connecting the existing east–west corridor with a new north-running line through the city centre.
Opening is targeted around 2030, so this won't affect a visit any time soon — for now, Metro Line 1 remains the only operational line, running between Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien in Thu Duc City. We'll update this space as construction progresses and firmer opening dates emerge.
